THE BODY SHOP WINS BUSINESS OF THE YEAR

The Body Shop took out top honours at the 2008-2009 Monash Business Awards presentation held last Friday at the Best Western Wheelers Hill International.

More than 180 Monash business and council representatives attended the event with special guests Maxine Morand MP (Minister for Children and Early Childhood Development & Women’s Affairs) and Cr Tom Morrissey.

Deputy Mayor Charlotte Baines said the Monash Business Awards (MBA) help promote and recognise business success and excellence through the recognition of significant achievements and innovations.

“This is one of the most important nights on the business calendar in Monash and it provides local business people with the opportunity to meet, exchange ideas and discuss current issues,” said Cr Baines.

The Body Shop was founded in 1983 by Graeme Wise, who began with one store and bottled products in the family garage in Mulgrave.

Today, the business turns over $120 million, employs more than 1200 people and has 80 stores across Australia.  Actively campaigning for positive social and environmental change, the family-owned company enjoys 100% brand recognition and attributes their success to committed, passionate, enthusiastic people.

The Monash Business Awards were established in 1994 by ten local business leaders to honour local business achievements.

This year’s award winners are:

  • The Body Shop – Business of The Year
  • Geotesta – Monash Enterprise Centre Award
  • Novotel Melbourne Glen Waverley – Innovation Award
  • 7-Eleven Stores Pty Ltd – Business Excellence Award
  • The Minders Building & Garden Care – Outstanding Small Business Award
